Badass of the Week: Gina Carano

This past weekend, I lay back and watched Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and to my surprise I see that one of the main events on the night’s card are women! Somehow I missed when women started competing in MMA and was expecting to see a “match” that was absent of intensity (women’s boxing) and as anti-climactic as the WNBA.

Enter Gina “Conviction” Carano. Boy did this woman prove me wrong. This woman drove her opponent (Kaitlin Young) to hell and back…twice. In Ms. Young’s defense, she put up an incredible fight as well which made the match even better. Unfortunately for her, at the end of the night, Gina Carano’s badassness won and turned her face from pretty to bloody and incredibly swollen. I think what made this fight so good (and this woman stand out to me even more) was the fact that after just two rounds of hell, Carano managed to completely screw this woman’s face up so bad, the ref had to stop the fight, all the while Carano’s face is flawless. I don’t even think she was sweating. Kinda like those Indian movies where the guy’s hair stays perfect despite jumping out of a moving train/airplane/etc.

If being the first American woman to win the National Muay Thai Championship in Thailand isn’t badass enough, I don’t know what is. Not only is she a kickass master of Muay Thai, Western Boxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu nicknamed “Woman Muay Thai Boxing Demon” in Thailand, but she’s also an American Gladiator called “Crush”. If I watched that show, I’d prolly have known that. Either, way, this chick is Raw, and definitely proof that chicks can kick serious ass. She makes Leila Ali look like a scrub. Yeh, I said it…

Finally, a female sport that’s not track that’s actually worth watching! And this isn’t you’re typical “chick-fight” stuff either. These women are actually fighting like…foreal.
