Are you ready for the new D’Angelo?

“This is my MTV diary. You think you know…”
So my boy texted me the other day asking if I read the Spin Magazine article on D’Angelo. “Of course (I haven’t)” I replied. Thus, priority one was finding this article. Supposedly folks were scouring the internet for this article but to no avail, complaining that it was nowhere to be found and being pulled down from sites. Meanwhile, the Gent found Spin Magazine’s free digital version and read the article at his leisure. Read more
Artist Spotlight: Blu
July 22, 2008 by The Shaman · Leave a Comment
Some artists are hip. Some artists like to hop. Certain selected go pop; others stay grounded, yet the music never stops. Okay so I can’t rap, but I also can’t dunk from the free throw line. So all you speculators out there claiming that hip-hop is dead clearly have not heard of an up & coming artist by the name of…wait let me rephrase myself….by the color of Blu. Read more

Props to Wale for breakin’ in the game.
I say “breaking” because that is the prerequisite for reaching the masses nowadays. Hope the rest of his work is on par with this here. What I’ve heard so far I’m cool with though. Peep the video. Read more
Unacceptable

R. Kelly was acquitted on June 13 of all charges in his six-year legal battle accusing him of engaging in sexual acts with an underage female. Apparently, the jury ultimately made their decision based on the feelings that the prosecution did not prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt. Surprisingly, the infamous videotape showing what is widely believed to be R. Kelly with the clearly underage female was not enough to convince the jury. This was furthered by both the accused and said victim denying it was them in the tape despite both parties having family members testify that it was in fact them. Read more
Lil’ Wayne Sells One Million
June 18, 2008 by The Gentleman · 1 Comment
Your favorite raspy rapper has gone platinum in one week. Selling one million copies since its June 10 release “The Carter III”, Wayne’s sixth album, gives him the best debut so far this year. The last album to sell one million in its debut week was “The Massacre” by 50 Cent. No album in 2006 broke 800,000 copies sold in its first week out. Kanye West’s 2007 effort “Graduation” was a mere 50,000 shy of the platinum mark selling 957,000 in its first week despite the competition from Curtis (no pun intended). Read more
One man’s trash…

Recently came across this Stevie Wonder throwaway clip from 1974 thanks to ?uestlove. He may not blog that often, but he definitely makes up for it with the quality rather than quantity. Now, the cautionary tone in his words were straight out of The Ring. “If you listen to this, you will die!” Ok, ok, really it was more like “…you will not stop listening to this… for seven days!” Read more
The Storm Is Over Now

“Thank you, Jesus!”
Yes, those were the words repeated over and over by R. Kelly (aka Kels) as the final few counts were delivered by the official Friday according to one of his attorneys, Sam Adam Jr. Originally indicted on June 6, 2002 on 21 counts of sexual intercourse with a minor these were eroded over six years to 14 counts soliciting a minor for child pornography. If convicted, 41-year old R. Kelly faced up to 15 years. (Yes, Public Announcement was a long time ago.) Read more
